Toddler World

A look into the life of 3 small kids and their parents

Traveling with toddlers…..

…..yes, I am crazy!!!! The toddlers and I hit the road last weekend and made a road trip to IN to visit an old friend. After getting caught in 2 hrs. of construction traffic near Chicago, we finally made it to G-knee’s house!!!! (And ate dinner at 10pm….) :-)
It was a great weekend, complete with the normal “roadblocks” that G-knee and I always hit when we make plans together. :-) But it was so much fun–her house is adorable and she even cooked for us!!! (I know we are special now.) Thanks G-knee!
We were also able to see our friend Gretchen on Saturday. She is still the same old Gretchen–fun and classy. Thanks for driving over, Gretch! And thanks for supplying the toddlers with a few more favorite books. :-) We have read Olivia every night since we got back.
I promised pictures to my friends, so here are a few….it was a very fun weekend and I can hardly wait to drive down again!!

Boys and girls are different….

Case in point: My oldest toddler and her friend promptly gravitated to gender-specific costumes today, in which they remained for the entire morning. Now, while my daughter occasionally enjoys wearing a cowboy hat, it is usually in conjunction with her pink princess dress. And while her little friend may tolerate watching Cinderella II (as he was subjected to today), I can almost bet he would not be caught dead in a pink shiny gown!
It just made me wonder why people try to fight so hard against the natural instincts God has given the sexes. Even at the age of three, kids pretty much have their preferences and roles figured out. :-) Of course, I am generalizing but still……
( I am imagining her father may have something to say about her posing so closely to a boy…) :-)

How inconvenient!!!

Of all of the times to be out of batteries, yesterday was not a good one! I missed one of the cutest photographic moments with my toddlers…..
They were playing in the yard, which is a wonder in and of itself–I can’t get the oldest one to just play out there! The oldest toddler was wearing her pink princess dress, as usual. She imagines that she is Cinderella and spends most of her days in a fairytale haze. :-) Last night, she decided that she would like to play soccer in the yard. So she donned her scuffed up play tennis shoes (with her pink princess dress, mind you) and rushed out into the yard to “start the game”. Soon she was yelling all sorts of soccer jargon (“cross the ball”, “dribble it down the field”, and “GOAL!!!!”) Thank you, Daddy…. :-)
It would have been a priceless picture or video, but thanks to our cheap digital camera, I did not get it captured on film. :-( Oh well…those kind of memories I can just store in my heart.
I did get a cute picture of the girls playing “cowboy” together. They were yelling “yee-haw” at the top of their lungs. :-) I’m sure the neighbors loved it!
I am enjoying these moments with my little girls….
